Orlando will be without leading scorer Martín Ojeda, who remains out with a thigh injury. The MLS Player Status Report also rules out Eduard Atuesta (thigh), Nolan Miller (knee) and Braian Ojeda (foot), leaving interim head coach Martín Perelman short in midfield. Chicago sit comfortably in third place with 32 points from 18 matches (10 wins, 2 draws, 6 defeats) and a +10 goal difference. Their 34 goals scored make them one of the conference’s more potent attacks, while only three teams have conceded fewer. The Fire have won three of their last five MLS outings, underlining the challenge Orlando face in breaking them down.
With Ojeda out, much of Orlando’s threat will flow through the in-form Tyrese Spicer, whose recent scoring touch could trouble a Chicago defence that has occasionally been breached on the road. At the other end, Zinckernagel will look to exploit the space behind Orlando’s back line, with Lewandowski’s movement likely to draw centre-backs out of position. How Orlando’s makeshift midfield copes with Chicago’s quick transitions may decide the contest.
The Lions must maximise this homestand if they are to close the gap to the top nine. A positive result against a high-flying Fire team would provide a significant boost ahead of Saturday’s visit of Real Salt Lake.
