The performance highlighted the defensive organisation that made them difficult to break down, while Calvert-Lewin led the line with his usual industry. Brentford ended 2025/26 with a goalless home draw against Tottenham, a result that left them ninth on 53 points – tied on points with the European spots but missing out on goal difference. Under Andrews, the Bees have maintained the core of that side and will look to transfer their resilience into the new campaign, starting with this away test.
With van den Berg sidelined, Brentford’s centre-back pairing is likely to be Kristoffer Ajer and a partner still finding his rhythm. Calvert-Lewin will look to exploit any uncertainty. The Leeds striker ended last season with a shot on target in each of his final four top-flight appearances, and his physical duel with Brentford’s defence could decide how much joy the home side find in the final third.
Leeds will be eyeing a second consecutive victory that would give them early momentum before the September international break. Brentford, meanwhile, are determined not to fall behind the early pace after last spring’s near-miss for Europe.
