ML Vitebsk vs Borac Banja Luka: UEFA Conference League 3rd
Belarusian champions ML Vitebsk welcome Bosnian outfit Borac Banja Luka to their Stadyen DYuSSh-1 home in Rohachev on Thursday evening for the first leg of a UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round tie. The hosts are tasting European football for the first time after lifting their domestic crown, while Borac are aiming to return to the group phase having reached the last 16 just two seasons ago.
Vitebsk’s European Odyssey
The campaign has already provided a rollercoaster of emotions for Vitebsk. A maiden Champions League qualifying tie ended in a 5-1 aggregate defeat, but the Belarusians bounced back emphatically by demolishing Sutjeska by the same 5-1 margin in Conference League qualifying round two. Forward Bassekou Diabate has been central to that revival, netting twice across the two legs and injecting pace into the attack. Midfield creators Silas Gnaka and Denilho Cleonise will again be asked to unlock a Borac defence that kept things tight in their own second-round success.
Borac’s Continental Pedigree
Borac Banja Luka are no strangers to the competition. Their memorable run to the last 16 two seasons ago was halted by Rapid Wien, and they have already flexed their muscles this summer by scoring six times across their second qualifying round tie – the second-highest tally they have ever managed in a two-legged European encounter. The Bosnians will lean on that experience as they look to take a positive result back to Banja Luka for the return fixture.
