Gornik Zabrze vs Monaco: Pogba injury blow ahead of playoff
Gornik Zabrze meet AS Monaco in the first leg of the 2026/27 UEFA Europa Conference League playoff round on Thursday, 20 August, at their 31,871-capacity Stadion im. Ernesta Pohla home in Zabrze. The Polish vice-champions are fighting for a place in the group stage against a Monaco side that is making its European return under new head coach Filipe Luís — but will be without several key figures.
Team News and Injury Latest
Monaco will travel to Poland without midfielder Mamadou Coulibaly, who is suspended after his red card in last season’s Champions League play-off against Paris Saint-Germain. An even bigger blow is the absence of Paul Pogba: the 33-year-old broke down with a thigh injury during a training camp at St George’s Park and has been told his contract will be terminated. Medical scans are still pending, but the Frenchman will play no part in Zabrze.
Górnik Zabrze have no reported injuries or suspensions. In their last outing — a 1-1 draw at home to Ferencváros that saw them drop out of the Europa League qualifiers — manager Jan Urban fielded a 4-3-3 built around goalkeeper Philipp Schulze, centre-backs Rafał Janicki and Josema, and captain Erik Janža at left-back. Kacper Urbański, who converted a penalty just before half-time in that tie, is set to start again in midfield.
