Palmeiras vs Vasco da Gama

League leaders Palmeiras welcome Vasco da Gama to their home ground on August 23, 2026, for a Round 24 Serie A fixture that pits the commanding front-runners against a historic club mired in the relegation zone. Abel Ferreira's side sit top of the table with 48 points from 23 matches, while Vasco arrive second-bottom on 22 points, knowing they need a dramatic turnaround to preserve their top-flight status.

Team News and Injury Latest

Neither manager has reported any confirmed injuries or suspensions heading into the matchday. Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira is expected to have a full squad available, with no absentees listed in the buildup. Vasco da Gama head coach Pedro Emanuel is in a similar position, with no players confirmed out and no probable lineup released ahead of kick-off. Both camps will provide further updates as the fixture draws closer.

Palmeiras Form Guide

Palmeiras have been the season's standout side, recording 14 wins, six draws, and only three defeats. A recent form snapshot shows a potent attack that has found the net 40 times while conceding just 19 goals. They are coming off a sequence that includes a 3-0 win and a 4-0 away victory, underlining the firepower Ferreira has at his disposal. The front pairing has been clinical, and with Vitor Roque and José Manuel López leading the line, Palmeiras possess the league's most feared offensive unit.

Vasco da Gama Form Guide

Vasco's campaign has been a slog, with five wins, seven draws, and ten defeats leaving them precariously placed. The attacking output has been a major concern – just four goals in their last six outings – though the defense has shown some resilience with three draws in that span, including a 0-0 stalemate. A recent 1-0 win and a 1-3 away result offer slender encouragement, but the sheer gap to safety demands points from fixtures like this one.

Key Battle: Palmeiras' Attack vs Vasco's Resilience

Fereira's side have been scoring freely and will look to stretch a Vasco backline that has conceded 34 goals in 22 matches. The hosts average over 1.7 goals per game in the league, and the combination of Andreas Pereira's creative passing and the movement of Arias and Roque will test Pedro Emanuel's defensive setup intensely. Vasco, who have kept three clean sheets in their last five, must produce a near-perfect defensive display to leave with anything.

With the pressure mounting on Vasco and Palmeiras looking to strengthen their grip on top spot, this Round 24 clash carries huge weight at both ends of the table. For Vasco, a daunting run of fixtures lies ahead, including clashes with Vitorio and Cruzeiro, making any positive result here invaluable.
