Ipswich return to Portman Road looking to build on their opening home win, but they face a Liverpool side still searching for a first victory of the season after two high-scoring draws. The hosts' defensive openness — conceding over 20 shots per game — is a major concern against Liverpool's possession-heavy attack, while the visitors themselves have yet to keep a clean sheet on their travels. The key battle will be whether Ipswich's counter-attacking threat can exploit a Liverpool backline that has conceded twice in every away fixture. With both teams finding the net with regularity, expect an entertaining, open contest.

Match ResultAway Win62%

Liverpool have dominated possession and created more chances in their two draws, while Ipswich have conceded 22 shots per game, the worst in the division. The visitors' quality should tell over the ninety minutes despite Ipswich's spirited home record.

Win or DrawAway or Draw86%

Liverpool have avoided defeat in ten of their last twelve league outings and face an Ipswich side that allows significantly more expected goals than they create. The gap in squad quality suggests the visitors are strong candidates to avoid defeat.

Ipswich vs Liverpool: Injury-Hit Sides Meet

Updated Sat 5 Sept

Ipswich Town host Liverpool in a Premier League encounter on Friday evening, with the Tractor Boys buoyed by an opening-day victory while the Reds seek a first win after a dramatic draw at Newcastle.

Team News and Injury Latest

Ipswich will be without winger Jaden Philogene (ankle/foot) and midfielder Jack Taylor (knee), while Azor Matusiwa (thigh) and Florentino Luis (calf) are fitness doubts. Emersonn Correia da Silva and Jack Clarke, who both scored in the season-opening win over Sunderland, are expected to lead the line again.

Liverpool travel with a lengthy absentee list: Conor Bradley (knee), Hugo Ekitike (Achilles), Giovanni Leoni (knee), Federico Chiesa (back) and Wataru Endo (ankle) are all ruled out, and Joe Gomez (muscle) remains doubtful. Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai, who both found the net in the 2-2 draw at Newcastle, are the visitors’ most reliable attacking outlets.

Ipswich Form Guide

Gary O’Neil’s revamped side kicked off the campaign with a 2-1 home success against Sunderland. New signings Issa Diop, Saša Lukić and Abdul Fatawu have added top-flight know‑how, while Emersnon’s early goal and Clarke’s winner gave the promoted club an ideal start in front of their own supporters.

Liverpool Form Guide

Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool fought back for a point at St James’ Park. Gakpo hammered home a first‑half equaliser, only for Newcastle to retake the lead immediately, but Szoboszlai smashed home a stoppage‑time penalty to salvage a 2-2 draw. The Reds’ injury crisis was exposed on Tyneside, and they will be desperate to record a first win of the season.

Key Battle: Emersonn vs Gakpo

Both teams possess an in‑form attacker. Emersonn struck inside the opening minutes against Sunderland – one of three shots he managed in just 66 minutes – while Gakpo led the threat at Newcastle with six shots and three chances created. How Ipswich’s new‑look backline, anchored by Diop and Dara O’Shea, handles Liverpool’s creative trio of Gakpo, Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz could decide the contest.

Predicted Lineups

Ipswich (4-2-3-1): Scherpen; O’Shea, Diop, Greaves, Davis; Lukić, Núñez; Fatawu, Enciso, Maeda; Emersonn. Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Frimpong, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Gravenberch; Víctor Muñoz, Wirtz, Gakpo; Isak.

A second straight win would cement Ipswich’s bright opening, while Liverpool will be eager to avoid an early gap to the early frontrunners before they return to Anfield next weekend.
