Levante vs Real Betis

Levante host Real Betis in La Liga on 29 August 2026, with the two sides experiencing contrasting starts to the new Spanish top-flight campaign. The home side are searching for their first point of the season after an opening-day thrashing, while the visitors finally get their league schedule underway after a postponed opening fixture. Levante returned to La Liga for the 2026-27 season but have been immediately reminded of the division’s unforgiving nature.

Team News and Injury Latest

The summer transfer window hit Levante hard, with the club losing last season’s top scorer Carlos Espin and influential midfielder Kervin Arriaga. Those departures have significantly weakened an already thin squad, and financial constraints have prevented the club from registering some of their summer signings. Manager Luis Castro admitted his side were psychologically unprepared for the opening day, a candid assessment that hints at the fragility within the camp. The recent loan signing of 18-year-old defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe offers a new face, but expecting an immediate solution to the team’s defensive problems would be overly optimistic.

Real Betis, by contrast, have kept the core of their squad intact. Manuel Pellegrini’s side saw their opening fixture against Valencia postponed, meaning this trip to Levante is their first official test of the season. The experienced Chilean has a strong attacking unit at his disposal, with Isco and Antony capable of unlocking defences through individual skill.

Levante Form Guide

Levante’s start to the season has been disastrous. They lost 0-3 away to Espanyol in their opening match, and the performance was arguably more concerning than the scoreline. The Frogs failed to register a single shot on target and were comprehensively outworked in terms of intensity and duels won. That result continued a worrying trend away from their own stadium, where the side already looked vulnerable. The defeat was the continuation of a difficult period that saw the squad weakened by summer departures, and Luis Castro faces a significant challenge to turn around the team’s fragile confidence.

Real Betis Form Guide

Real Betis last played a competitive match on 23 May 2026 when they beat Levante 2-1 at home, a result that will give them a psychological edge heading into this encounter. Their pre-season form was convincing: a 3-1 win over Arsenal, a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, and a narrow 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan showed a side ready for the new campaign. Last season, Pellegrini’s men won 10 of their 19 home league matches and finished fifth in La Liga, underlining their quality. The attacking football they produced throughout that campaign, built around the creative talents of Isco and Antony, will be expected to trouble a Levante defence that looked porous on the opening weekend.

Key Battle: Levante’s Fragile Defence vs Betis’ Attacking Fluidity

The defining contest in this match will be whether Levante can shore up a backline that was torn apart by Espanyol. Without a shot on target in their first outing, the hosts also offered precious little protection to their defenders, leaving them exposed to waves of pressure. Real Betis, under Pellegrini, are set up to exploit exactly that kind of disorganisation, with Isco and Antony capable of drifting into space and creating chances. If Levante cannot disrupt Betis’ rhythm early, the visitors’ ability to generate high-quality opportunities in the final third could prove decisive.

Levante know that a second consecutive defeat would heap early pressure on their survival bid, while Betis are eager to make a statement in their first league fixture. The Frogs’ next match is another home game where the expectation will be to finally get points on the board, but first they must find a way to contain one of La Liga’s most fluent attacking sides.
