AIK Stockholm’s capitulation at home to Orgryte IS headlined an eventful Allsvenskan Matchweek 15, while our forecasting model endured a disjointed set of results, particularly when it came to predicting the number of goals. The round’s seven matches that went ahead saw an unexpected 3-0 defeat for the Stockholm side that shredded two high-confidence calls, balanced by a picture-perfect call in Brommapojkarna’s narrow loss to Malmo and an emphatic six-goal display from Djurgardens.
How our forecasts did
Our model issued calls for six of the eight fixtures. The most reliable topic was win or draw, where five of the six calls landed, the only blemish being AIK Stockholm’s implosion against Orgryte IS. Match result finished four for six, dragged down by the same AIK result and a 1-1 draw that denied BK Hacken. At the other end of the scale, total goals was the round’s quiet wrecking ball – just two of the six calls graded correct came in, with matches repeatedly finishing under the 2.5 threshold despite the model’s medium or high confidence that they would breach it. Both teams to score split evenly at three from six, while the single first team to score and half-time and full-time forecasts both landed. Exact scoreline, always a low-confidence exercise, returned one perfect hit from six attempts, nailing IF Brommapojkarna 1-2 Malmo FF.
Results
Gais 2-0 Hammarby FF No forecasts were issued for the opening fixture of the round, which Gais won comfortably.
IF Elfsborg 1-1 Mjallby AIF This midweek fixture also passed without a model call, ending all square.
BK Hacken 1-1 Kalmar FF Our model fancied a Hacken win with medium confidence but the hosts had to settle for a point. The high-confidence win-or-draw call survived, and both teams to score landed, yet the medium-confidence over 2.5 goals and the exact 2-1 scoreline both missed. The pre-match analysis flagged that top scorer Lindberg’s suspension could blunt Hacken’s attack, and so it proved.
IF Brommapojkarna 1-2 Malmo FF A clean sweep for the model. The medium-confidence away win, high-confidence win or draw, over 2.5 goals, and both teams to score all landed. The low-confidence exact scoreline of 1-2 was on the money, making this the round’s standout forecast.
IFK Goteborg 2-0 Degerfors IF The model got the medium-confidence home win right and the high-confidence win or draw, but the call for over 2.5 goals and both teams to score fell flat as Goteborg kept a clean sheet. The absence of suspended top scorer Heintz, noted in the analysis, likely contributed to a match that never threatened to break the goals ceiling.
AIK Stockholm 0-3 Orgryte IS The round’s biggest shock torched almost everything we published. The medium-confidence AIK win and the high-confidence win or draw both failed, and the medium-confidence call for fewer than 2.5 goals was swamped by three unanswered strikes from the visitors. The only crumb of comfort was the high-confidence both-teams-to-score call that at least one side would be kept off the scoresheet, which proved correct. Orgryte arrived on a streak of five away defeats without scoring; the analysis expected their toothlessness to continue, but instead they cut loose.
Djurgardens IF 6-0 Vasteras SK FK A high-confidence home win and a medium-confidence over 2.5 goals were never in doubt. The medium-confidence both teams to score call missed, however, as Vasteras were blanked, and the low-confidence 2-1 exact scoreline was buried under an avalanche of goals.
Halmstad 0-2 Sirius The leaders kept marching, and the high-confidence away win and win-or-draw forecasts cashed in. The model’s medium-confidence call for Sirius to score the opening goal and the low-confidence half-time and full-time prediction (Sirius ahead at the break and winning it) both came through. But the high-confidence over 2.5 goals and the medium both teams to score missed, with Halmstad firing another blank.
What we got wrong
AIK Stockholm’s 3-0 home loss to Orgryte IS was the headline miss, and it carried a high-confidence win-or-draw tag. The analysis read the situation as an injury-ravaged AIK side that had lost three of their last four at home, but it banked on an Orgryte outfit that had not scored a single away goal all season being unable to cause real damage. That assumption collapsed inside 90 minutes, with the visitors scoring three and leaving the high-confidence call in tatters. The model also underestimated the number of goals here; the under-2.5 call was buried as Orgryte ran riot.
The total-goals topic had a painful round across the board. In four of the six fixtures where we called for more than 2.5 goals, the matches stayed under – Hacken’s 1-1 draw, Goteborg’s 2-0 win, Halmstad’s 2-0, and the AIK shock all tightening up unexpectedly. In each case, key absentees we flagged – Lindberg for Hacken, Heintz for Goteborg, and defensive absentees for the others – suppressed scoring. Both teams to score also malfunctioned in three matches, largely because clean sheets appeared where our analysis expected open exchanges.
What the round changed
Sirius kept their grip on the top with a controlled win at Halmstad and now look a genuine title force. Malmo’s victory at Brommapojkarna sustained their impressive recent run, while AIK Stockholm’s heavy home defeat will raise serious questions about their European ambitions. Djurgardens’ six-goal blast underlines their threat, and Hacken’s draw at home to Kalmar feels like two points dropped in a congested race.
