Allsvenskan Matchweek 16 delivered a pair of startling results that left the title race tighter than ever. Leaders Sirius were held 2-2 at home by IF Brommapojkarna despite the visitors missing their top scorer, and Malmo FF crashed to a 1-2 home defeat against a Degerfors IF side that arrived on a five-match losing streak. Our forecasting model, which had tipped both sides with high confidence, found its both-teams-to-score market was the round’s least reliable segment.
How our forecasts did
Across the eight fixtures our model graded its seven standard markets. The best performers were win-or-draw and total goals, each landing in six of eight matches. Match result calls were correct in five of the eight contests. First team to score found the mark four times, while the exact scoreline and half-time/full-time markets each connected just once. The real damage came in the both-teams-to-score category, where only three of the eight calls proved correct — a round where clean sheets and surprise shutouts repeatedly confounded the projections.

Orgryte IS 3-4 AIK Stockholm
A seven-goal thriller went the way of AIK, vindicating our low-confidence call on an away win. Every market bar the exact scoreline and half-time/full-time landed: the model had both teams to score, Orgryte to strike first, and over 2.5 goals, all of which played out before AIK’s late winner. The 1-2 exact scoreline naturally fell short.
Mjallby AIF 0-1 IF Elfsborg
A solitary goal settled a tight contest and handed Elfsborg the victory we correctly forecast. That lone strike, however, meant the calls for over 2.5 goals and both teams to score were wrong. The model’s low-confidence exact score pick of 0-1 was spot on, a rare bright spot in an otherwise low-scoring encounter that finished opposite to the call of the points being shared at half-time.

Hammarby FF 3-0 BK Hacken
Hammarby dominated from the start and ran out comfortable winners, delivering on our high-confidence match result call. We called the hosts to open the scoring and lead at the break — both correct — and over 2.5 goals also landed. The only blot was the high-confidence both-teams-to-score forecast: Hacken, despite their travelling reputation, never threatened and suffered a rare away clean sheet.
Malmo FF 1-2 Degerfors IF
The weekend’s biggest upset. Malmo were heavy favourites at home against an outfit on a five-match losing streak, and we backed them with high confidence across the win, first scorer and win-or-draw markets. All three failed as Degerfors scored early and defended doggedly. Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score did land, but the high-confidence calls fell flat, turning the match into one of our poorest single-game readings.
IFK Goteborg 3-2 Kalmar FF
A topsy-turvy Friday evening saw Goteborg edge a five-goal thriller, validating our medium-confidence win call and the over 2.5 goals tip. The both-teams-to-score call — predicting at least one clean sheet — was wrong as both nets were breached early. Our selections for the opener and the half-time/full-time combination both missed despite the hosts eventually taking the three points.
Halmstad 0-2 Gais
Gais made it three wins in four visits to Halmstad with a controlled away performance. Our medium-confidence away win and our firm call for Gais to score first both came off, as did the under 2.5 goals forecast. However, the exact 0-1 scoreline and the half-time/full-time Gais selection were wide of the mark; Halmstad’s clean sheet also meant the both-teams-to-score pick was another miss.

Sirius 2-2 IF Brommapojkarna
League leaders Sirius surrendered a winning position at home against a Brommapojkarna side missing suspended danger man Martin Hansen. Our high-confidence Sirius win call was wrong, but the win-or-draw safety net held. Over 2.5 goals, both teams to score and Sirius as the first scorer all landed. The model’s expectation of Sirius ahead at the interval and full-time didn’t materialise, mirroring a pattern of late equalisers throughout the round.
Vasteras SK FK 1-0 Djurgardens IF
A clean sweep of misses for our model. Every single forecast for this match — match result, win-or-draw, total goals, both teams to score, first scorer, exact scoreline and half-time/full-time — returned as incorrect. Djurgardens were backed with high confidence to win and with medium confidence across the other markets, but Vasteras defended resolutely and nicked the only goal, leaving our model with a complete whiff on the final fixture of the weekend.
What we got wrong
Djurgardens’ 1-0 defeat stands out as the round’s biggest miss, a match where we failed on every single call. The model leant heavily on a five-match unbeaten run and Vasteras’ defensive absentees, but the home side produced their best performance of the season. Malmo’s shock loss at home to Degerfors exposed the model’s over-reliance on the fixture list — a five-match losing streak for the visitors and Malmo’s potent attack didn’t translate into the expected result, a reminder that form lines can snap abruptly in this division.
The both-teams-to-score market, usually a reliable volume call, collapsed with only three correct from eight attempts. Clean sheets for Hammarby, Halmstad and Vasteras, along with Mjallby’s goalless afternoon, repeatedly stymied forecasts that had assumed both clubs would find the net. When the round’s high-confidence both-teams-to-score pick on Hammarby–Hacken misses, it signals an unpredictability that even the most confident readings couldn’t navigate.
Allsvenskan Matchweek 16 tightened the top and gave the chasing pack fresh belief. Sirius’s stumble and Malmo’s home reverse allowed Hammarby to close the gap with a ruthless display, while Degerfors’s win offers a lifeline at the bottom. For our model, the round was a bruising lesson in the perils of high-confidence calls when the league’s established order is turned on its head.
