Fenerbahçe’s trip to newly-promoted Gençlerbirliği S.K. ended in a 2-1 defeat, the standout result of a weekend that also saw defending champions Galatasaray held to a draw. Samsunspor 3-3 Göztepe The only fixture our model tackled proved to be a chaotic thriller. Our call for a Samsunspor win was undone by a back-and-forth battle that saw six goals. We had forecasted a tight, low-scoring affair—our analysis noted Samsunspor’s home resilience and Göztepe’s travel struggles—and the exact scoreline projection was a narrow 1-0 home win. The reality was anything but, with the total goals call of fewer than 2.5 obliterated well before full-time. While the both teams to score forecast landed and Samsunspor avoided defeat to make the win or draw call correct, a Göztepe opener meant our first team to score call missed, and the points were not shared at the break.
What we got wrong in Samsunspor
Our model walked into Monday night reading the game as a cagey contest between two sides who had narrowly beaten the drop last season. The reasoning was sound on paper: Samsunspor’s home form was their survival route, Göztepe were inconsistent travellers, and recent history between these two teams had been close. The model backed a composed home performance, a clean sheet, and a low goal count. Instead, the goalkeepers were picking the ball out of the net six times.
