Fiorentina vs Frosinone

Fiorentina host newly-promoted Frosinone on Saturday in the second matchday of the 2026-27 Serie A season. The Viola look to bounce back from their opening-day fixture, while the Canaries arrive aiming to prove they can finally survive in Italy’s top flight after three previous campaigns ended in immediate relegation.

Team News and Injury Latest

Fiorentina manager Fabio Grosso is without long-term absentee Fabiano Parisi. Midfielder Rolando Mandragora remains highly doubtful due to a persistent back injury that kept him out of midweek cup action. David de Gea will continue in goal, shielded by a central defensive pairing of Radu Drăgușin and Luca Ranieri. In attack, Albert Guðmundsson is expected to operate behind lone striker Moise Kean, providing the creative link between midfield and the front line.

Frosinone have no major fitness concerns reported before the trip. Massimiliano Alvini, who guided the club to promotion from Serie B as runners-up behind Venezia, can field a largely settled side. The Canaries have blended youthful energy with a handful of experienced signings as they attempt to rewrite a history that has seen them relegated in each of their three previous Serie A seasons.

Frosinone’s Survival Quest

This marks Frosinone’s fourth appearance in the top division, and the narrative is painfully familiar: the club from the Lazio region has never managed to stay up for a second consecutive season. Alvini’s task is to end that cycle. The squad is young, but the signing of seasoned professionals was designed to give the team the steel it previously lacked. Their opening fixture against Juventus provided an early measuring stick; now the focus shifts to taking points from a direct rival in the lower half.

Key Battle: Guðmundsson vs the Canaries’ Backline

With Mandragora likely missing, much of Fiorentina’s attacking thrust will flow through Guðmundsson. The playmaker thrived in pre-season and is expected to drift between the lines, making him a difficult mark. Frosinone’s defensive organisation will be tested by his movement and Kean’s physicality. If the Canaries can disrupt that link, they stand a chance of frustrating the home side and snatching a result that would boost early confidence.

Fiorentina’s midweek exploits and early-season rhythm will be under scrutiny, but after a busy summer of squad changes, Grosso will want a statement performance. For Frosinone, every away point is a building block in a campaign that will be measured not in one game, but by whether they can finally hold onto their Serie A status when the season ends.
