Waalwijk vs Dordrecht: Haller's Home Bow as Raatsie Returns
Published
RKC Waalwijk welcome FC Dordrecht to the Mandemakers Stadion in Waalwijk on Friday evening for the second round of the 2026-27 Eerste Divisie season. The match kicks off at 18:00 UTC, with both sides eager to build early momentum in the Dutch second tier.
Waalwijk's Summer Spending Spree
RKC Waalwijk signalled serious intent during the summer window, recruiting a spine of top-flight experience. Striker Sebastien Haller arrived on a free transfer from Sanfrecce Hiroshima, while centre-backs Nick Viergever and Mike van der Hoorn also joined to shore up the defence. The arrivals of full-back Souffian El Karouani and midfielder Rafik El Arguioui on loan add further depth, suggesting promotion is the clear target.
Dordrecht's New-Look Defence
Dordrecht underwent a defensive rebuild of their own, with goalkeeper Celton Biai (free) and right-back Marlon van de Wetering (from FC Eindhoven) among the new faces. Loan additions Kasey Bos from Mainz and youngsters Jan Plug and Aymen Sliti from Feyenoord offer youthful energy. The most eye-catching arrival, however, is Calvin Raatsie, the goalkeeper who swapped Waalwijk for Dordrecht on a free transfer. He is expected to start against his former club.
Key Battle: Haller vs Dordrecht's Backline
Haller's physical presence and aerial ability pose a stern test for a Dordrecht defence that lost last season's standout forward, Yannick Eduardo (12 goals, 5 assists on loan), to champions ADO Den Haag. With Viergever and van der Hoorn beside him, the hosts have the experience to dominate set-pieces, making Haller's home debut the fulcrum of Waalwijk's attacking plan.
Raatsie's Emotional Return
Calvin Raatsie will step into the Mandemakers Stadion away dressing room for the first time. The 21-year-old goalkeeper came through the RKC youth ranks before making the short move in the off-season. His familiarity with the home forwards could prove invaluable for a Dordrecht side that is still bedding in several new faces.
The early rounds of the Eerste Divisie rarely define a season, but with Waalwijk's heavy investment and Dordrecht's fresh tactical identity, this second-round fixture offers an early glimpse of how the promotion picture might shape up.
