FC Porto vs Moreirense

FC Porto put their perfect start on the line when they welcome Moreirense to their home ground for a Primeira Liga matchday five fixture on 4 September 2026. Porto have won all three league outings so far, scoring twice in each without conceding, while Moreirense arrive still searching for a first victory after taking only a single point from their opening two games.

Team News and Injury Latest

Porto are nursing a trio of significant absentees. Midfielder Vasco Sousa is sidelined with a broken fibula, winger Oskar Pietuszewski is out with a muscle problem, and forward Samu Aghehowa continues his recovery from a cruciate ligament tear. Francesco Farioli will again have to shuffle his attacking options in Aghehowa's absence, though the squad has coped admirably so far, keeping three consecutive clean sheets.

Moreirense, by contrast, report a fully fit squad. Head coach Vasco Botelho da Costa can call on all his senior players as the minnows attempt to cause an upset against one of the division's heavyweights.

FC Porto Form Guide

Porto's league campaign has been built on control and efficiency. They opened with a 2-0 home win over newly promoted Alverca on 9 August, followed up with a 2-0 success at Rio Ave six days later, and most recently dispatched Famalicao by the same scoreline on 23 August. Across those 270 minutes, Farioli's side have averaged over 53% possession, converted 74% of their shots on target, and created 4.33 big chances per match – numbers that underline their dominance.

Historically, this fixture is heavily one-sided. Porto have won 23 of the 30 league meetings between the clubs, with Moreirense managing just a single victory. The last clash, in March 2026, ended 3-0 to the Dragons in front of a crowd of 44 672.

Moreirense's Early Struggles

The visitors have found the step up in class difficult. After a goalless draw on the opening weekend, Moreirense were beaten heavily in their second outing, shipping four goals and leaving themselves with a minus-4 goal difference. Possession has been hard to come by – a meagre 43% average – and the defence has looked vulnerable, conceding three goals across the two matches while failing to keep a single clean sheet.

Key Battle: Farioli's System vs Botelho da Costa's Setup

The dugout duel adds another layer. Francesco Farioli has faced Vasco Botelho da Costa twice and won on both occasions, boasting a perfect3.00 points per game record in those head-to-heads. Botelho da Costa is yet to take a point off Porto in his managerial career, and his side must find a way to cope with Porto's high press and clinical finishing if they are to end that streak.

Moreirense's best hope probably lies in capitalising on any sluggishness from the hosts after the international break. If they can frustrate Porto early and keep the scoreline tight, a point would represent an excellent result. Porto, though, will expect to extend their perfect record and maintain pressure on the early-season leaders.
