Austin vs Philadelphia Union

Austin welcome Philadelphia Union to their usual home in the MLS regular season on Saturday, August 22, with kick-off set for 8:30 PM ET. The Matchday 21 contest provides a stage for two of the league’s most in-form finishers to go head-to-head as both sides look to build momentum in their respective conference campaigns.

Both clubs arrive without fresh fitness concerns, pointing toward strong starting lineups at Q2 Stadium. The focus for Austin will be the attacking trio of Myrto Uzuni, Christian Ramirez, and creator Facundo Torres. Philadelphia enter the match after navigating a heavy schedule of four games in 10 days, yet their young core has provided a spark that manager Ryan Richter will look to harness on the road.

Team News and Injury Latest

No new injuries are reported for either squad, giving both benches something close to first-choice options. Philadelphia have emerged from a gruelling Leagues Cup run with a clean bill of health, while Austin similarly have their key attacking pieces available. The hosts are set to lean on Myrto Uzuni, who leads the squad with six goals from 42 shots this season. Christian Ramirez adds a sharp cutting edge, having scored five times in just 765 minutes on the pitch. Behind them, Facundo Torres has created 43 chances, underlining his role as the chief supply line.

For Philadelphia, Milan Iloski enters as the most prolific scorer in this matchup. His 10 goals from 72 attempts, including 27 on target, make him the clear focal point. Bruno Damiani and Danley Jean Jacques have each chipped in with three goals, while 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan has carried his Leagues Cup form into league play, providing energy and creativity in the final third. Teenage center back Neil Pierre has also grown into a dependable figure at the back.

Austin Form Guide

Austin’s recent MLS outings have been a mixed bag, with results running L-W-L-L-L across their last five. A 3-1 home victory over Seattle Sounders on July 23 provided a brief lift, but that has been surrounded by setbacks. They fell 3-0 at St. Louis City, suffered a 3-0 loss at Houston Dynamo, and were edged 1-0 away to Colorado Rapids. Most recently, a 2-1 home defeat to FC Dallas on August 17 continued the difficult stretch.

That sequence has left Austin sitting on 17 points in the Western Conference standings, where every home fixture now carries added weight. The return to their own stadium offers a chance to reset, and they have shown flashes of home firepower—most notably in the three-goal outburst against Seattle.

Philadelphia Union Form Guide

Philadelphia have been one of the hottest teams in MLS since returning from the World Cup break, notching a fourth straight league win before turning their attention to this Texas trip. Their attack has clicked, with Sullivan and Pierre stepping into prominent roles and Iloski finishing chances at a high rate.

The Union’s Leagues Cup campaign yielded a victory over Necaxa—Nathan Harriel, Bruno Damiani, and Cavan Sullivan all found the net in a 3-0 lead before a late concession—but ultimately fell short of a quarterfinal berth. Returning to MLS play, they will look to recapture the league form that pushed them toward the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race. A demanding schedule that includes stops at Yankee Stadium against NYCFC and a home date with Inter Miami means picking up points on the road is essential.

Key Battle: Myrto Uzuni vs Milan Iloski

This match pairs two of the most direct goal threats in the league. Uzuni is Austin’s attacking heartbeat—six goals, 17 shots on target, and a willingness to shoot from anywhere make him the player Philadelphia’s back line must track at all times. Christian Ramirez will try to feed off the attention Uzuni draws, while Torres pulls the strings in the buildup.

For the Union, Iloski’s 10-goal haul has been built on volume (72 shots) and sharp movement inside the box. The supply line behind him has been revitalized by Sullivan, whose quick decision-making was a standout feature during Leagues Cup. If Philadelphia can find Iloski in the channels against Austin’s defense, they will ask serious questions of the home backline.

Saturday evening’s fixture marks the start of a pivotal stretch for both clubs. Austin need to climb out of the bottom reaches of the West, while every away point for Philadelphia strengthens their push into playoff position in a crowded Eastern Conference.
