St. Louis City vs FC Dallas

St. Louis City welcome FC Dallas to Energizer Park on Saturday evening for an MLS Western Conference clash with significant implications for both sides’ playoff positioning. The home side put their franchise-record 11-match unbeaten streak on the line against a Dallas team looking to close the gap in the standings during Week 22 of the regular season.

St. Louis City: Unbeaten Machine Rolls On

St. Louis City extended their historic unbeaten run to 11 matches last weekend with a dramatic 2-1 home victory over Houston Dynamo. Dante Polvara’s 85th-minute winner settled a tight contest, his first goal of the season coming after a botched clearance from a Houston defender. Simon Becher had opened the scoring with a 17-yard blast in the 23rd minute, with Alexandru Matan and Conrad Wallem providing the assists. Head coach Raphael Wicky’s switch to a 4-4-2 formation has paid clear dividends, with ball progression and chance creation quickening even when the scoreboard has remained tight. The streak now stands at 8-0-3, including a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Sporting Kansas City in mid-August where Eduard Lowen struck just before halftime.

FC Dallas: Seeking Consistency on the Road

Dallas come into the match sitting fifth in the Western Conference having navigated an up-and-down recent schedule. Their last 10 outings have produced a 20-3-7 record across all phases of play, averaging six goals per game while conceding just over four. The attack has been potent, though injury absences continue to test the squad’s depth. Geovane Jesus, Daniel, and Anderson Julio are all unavailable for this trip, limiting head coach Nico Estevez’s rotation options in what promises to be a physically demanding encounter against a St. Louis side full of confidence.

Team News and Injury Latest

St. Louis City face the match without midfielder Christopher Durkin, who is suspended after accumulating too many yellow cards—his fifth caution of the season came for a foul on Calvin Harris during the draw at Sporting Kansas City. That forces a reshuffle in central midfield, where Lowen has been influential in the unbeaten run. Brendan McSorley, Celio Pompeu, and Kyle Hiebert remain sidelined through injury. For the visitors, the longer-term injury list depletes attacking width, putting additional creative burden on the remaining forwards to find a way past a St. Louis defense marshalled by Roman Burki, who made three saves in the win over Houston.

Key Battle: Becher’s Finishing Against a Leaky Dallas Backline

Simon Becher has emerged as a critical goalscoring outlet for St. Louis during the unbeaten sequence. His ability to hold off defenders, spin, and fire from distance makes him a handful in the box. Dallas have allowed roughly four goals per game over their recent sample—a vulnerability Becher, supported by Matan and Wallem’s interplay, will be eager to exploit. How Dallas’s central defenders handle the constant movement in the area likely determines whether they can snap St. Louis’s momentum or become its next victim.

St. Louis will aim to push further up the congested Western Conference table before another crucial fixture arrives, while Dallas need to collect points on the road to keep pace with the top four.
