Standard Liege vs Antwerp

Standard Liege host Antwerp in a crucial Jupiler Pro League Round 5 encounter on 5 September 2026, seeking to maintain their unbeaten start against a visiting side yet to taste defeat this season. Both teams sit inside the top six as the table begins to take shape.

Team News and Injury Latest

Standard Liege, managed by Vincent Euvrard, have set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation recently, blending defensive structure with fluid attacking transitions. The squad’s early stability is reflected in a record of two wins and two draws from four matches, scoring nine goals while conceding six. Antwerp, with two wins and a draw from three outings, have also been free-scoring — nine goals plundered in a compact schedule — though their backline has shipped five, hinting at potential vulnerability on the road. No specific injuries are flagged in the available data, leaving both managers with near-full selections for this pivotal fixture.

Standard Liege Form Guide

The hosts enter the match third in the standings with eight points, keeping pace with early front-runners Sporting Charleroi and Club Brugge. Their campaign began with two draws, but back-to-back victories in their most recent outings have generated momentum. Euvrard’s men appear to be growing into his system, with the attack finding rhythm and the midfield establishing control in key phases. A clean sheet remains elusive, yet Liege’s capacity to outscore opponents at home keeps them in the conversation for a top-two push.

Antwerp Form Guide

Antwerp occupy sixth place heading into this round, though they hold a game in hand on several sides above them. Seven points from three games — built on wins in their opening two matches and a subsequent draw — underlines their credentials as challengers. The attacking unit has been explosive, averaging three goals per game, but manager-led adjustments in defence will be tested by a Standard side that seldom goes quiet in front of its own supporters.

Key Battle: Midfield Control

This contest could hinge on who dictates the tempo in the centre of the pitch. Standard Liège’s 4-2-3-1 lends itself to a double pivot that shields the back four while launching counters; Antwerp will need to disrupt that platform early. If the visitors allow Standard’s attacking midfielders to turn and run at the defence, Antwerp’s high line could be exposed repeatedly. Conversely, Antwerp’s direct, fast-paced breaks have already punished teams in transition, and the hosts must guard against being caught with full-backs pushed high.

Standard Liege’s unbeaten league status gives them confidence, but Antwerp’s extra rest and potent frontline ensure this remains one of the round’s most unpredictable fixtures. A positive result for either side would tighten the gap to the leaders ahead of a congested autumn schedule.
