San Marino begin a new Nations League campaign at home, but the gulf in class they faced against Finland in Euro 2024 qualifying still looms large — the Finns put six past them without reply in the most recent meeting. Finland are rebuilding after a woeful run of six straight defeats in the competition's prior edition, yet they carry far superior individual quality into this contest. The question is whether San Marino's deep defensive block can frustrate an opponent low on confidence for long enough to make a game of it. Expect a controlled but not necessarily explosive start from the visitors, who will be desperate to avoid an early scare and should eventually find the breakthrough.

Match ResultAway Win86%

Finland's player pool operates several tiers above San Marino's, and despite their own dreadful recent form, they demolished this opponent 6-0 in their last head-to-head encounter.

Win or DrawAway or Draw97%

San Marino avoid defeat so rarely that even a draw would be a historic result; their thin squad depth and chronic inability to keep clean sheets make a stalemate a distant hope against better-organised opponents.

Total Goals3 or more goals62%

Half of Finland's Euro 2024 qualifying matches finished with at least three goals, and they put six past this San Marino side less than three years ago, pointing towards a comfortable multi-goal margin.

Friis names 25-man Finland squad for Serravalle trip

Finland coach Jacob Friis selected 25 players for the initial phase of the League C Group 1 schedule. The squad includes forward Joel Pohjanpalo and midfielder Robin Lod, who joins the national team from club duty with Chicago Fire.

Midfielders Glen Kamara and Lucas Bergstrom return to the senior group alongside Kaan Kairinen, who is back with Finland after withdrawing through injury in March. Friis has also included Juho Lahteenmaki, Adam Stahl, Onni Valakari, and Adrian Svanback as Finland prepare for a packed schedule of four matches in the space of 11 days.
