Greece's Super League 1 returned for Matchweek 7 with a round defined by heavy scoring at the top and wild unpredictability in the middle, headlined by Panathinaikos putting five past Asteras Tripolis. Across six completed matches, our analytical model proved sturdy on match outcomes while finding the goal counts much harder to pin down.
How our forecasts did
The split across categories reflected a weekend of extremes. The exact scoreline calls suffered the most, with just one of the six forecasts landing, though that single success was an exact projection of Olympiakos Piraeus winning 2-0. In the total goals category, only three of the six calls were correct, as several fixtures dramatically exceeded their defensive baselines. Both teams to score also split evenly, with three of six calls coming in, while first team to score and half-time and full-time each saw three of six calls land.
The model performed far better when predicting general match trajectory. In the win or draw category, five of the six calls landed, making it our strongest topic of the round. Match result forecasts also held up well, with four of the six calls correct, missing only the unexpected home victory for Kalamata and the scoreless stalemate in Levadia.
Results
The round opened with Levadiakos 0-0 Volos NFC, where the hosts extended their run without a league goal this campaign. Our model called a Levadiakos home win and missed on the match result, though it was correct on total goals finishing below 2.5.
Atromitos against AEK Athens FC was called off and did not take place, leaving no forecasts or result to grade.
Sunday began with an extraordinary match as Kalamata 4-3 OFI produced seven goals. Our model anticipated an OFI away victory and a quiet afternoon under 2.5 goals, missing both, but our calls for both teams to score and a decisive result either way did land.
Order was restored as Panetolikos 0-2 Olympiakos Piraeus played out exactly as projected. The model delivered a clean sweep on this fixture, correctly identifying the away win, the clean sheet for Olympiakos, their opening goal, and the exact 2-0 final score.
Panathinaikos 5-1 Asteras Tripolis followed, with the Athens side maintaining their flawless home record in emphatic fashion. The model accurately called the home win, the lead at both intervals, and more than 2.5 total goals, missing only on Asteras finding a consolation strike.
Aris Thessalonikis edged past Kifisia 1-2 on the road. The model landed the match result, the win or draw call, both teams to score, and the visitors opening the scoring, though it anticipated fewer than 2.5 goals.
The weekend closed with PAOK 2-1 Iraklis 1908 in Thessaloniki. Despite missing Pelkas and goalkeeper Pavlenka, PAOK delivered the projected home victory and cleared the 2.5 goal threshold, though Iraklis scoring first caught our model off guard.
What we got wrong
The biggest failure of the round came in Messinia, where Kalamata's meeting with OFI tore up every defensive indicator. The model leaned heavily into OFI's three prior clean sheets and the creative absence of suspended winger Aitor Cantalapiedra, expecting a tight 1-0 away win against a Kalamata side yet to keep a clean sheet. Instead, Kalamata turned the contest into open warfare, exposing OFI's back line repeatedly in a chaotic 4-3 win.
In Levadia, the model also placed misplaced faith in Levadiakos to finally open their seasonal goal account against a Volos NFC side that had leaked eight goals on their travels. While Volos offered little going forward, Levadiakos proved incapable of breaking through, leaving the 1-0 forecast stranded as the hosts settled for another blank.
Matchweek 7 cemented the authority of the division's title contenders, with Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, and PAOK all securing victories. Further down the standings, Kalamata's wild triumph disrupted expectations, while Levadiakos remain searching for answers in front of goal.
