Major League Soccer Matchweek 30 delivered a round defined by stubborn stalemates and away surprises, none sharper than Toronto FC taking a 2-0 victory against New York Red Bulls. Across fifteen fixtures, our predictive model had an uneven weekend, picking up solid returns on goal trends while finding outright match winners difficult to pin down amid five draws.
How our forecasts did
Outright match result calls struggled this weekend, with six of the fifteen forecasts proving correct. That was the most difficult category of the round outside the low-return specialist projections, where four of the fifteen half-time and full-time calls landed and just one of the fifteen exact scorelines came in.
By contrast, both teams to score led the round with eleven correct calls out of fifteen. Win or draw projections also held up well, landing ten correct calls from fifteen fixtures. Total goals finished at eight correct out of fifteen, while the first team to score projections also returned eight correct calls from fifteen.
Results

Philadelphia opened the scoring and pushed the match past the 2.5-goal threshold, but Charlotte battled back to force a draw, denying our call for a home victory while landing both teams to score.
Minnesota United FC 3-2 St. Louis City
Minnesota broke their five-game losing run in a five-goal thriller, delivering our low-confidence call for a home win alongside successful projections for both teams to score and more than 2.5 goals.
Atlanta United FC 1-3 Inter Miami
Inter Miami took control early through an opening goal and led at both the interval and the final whistle, validating our match result, total goals, and both teams to score projections.
New York City FC 1-1 Los Angeles FC
Los Angeles FC found the first goal, but the hosts hit back to salvage a point, which kept the contest under 2.5 goals and spoiled our call for an away win.
New York Red Bulls 0-2 Toronto FC
Toronto snapped their three-match losing streak with a disciplined away performance, denying both teams to score and upsetting our forecast for a home win.
Orlando City SC 4-1 DC United
Orlando took the lead and dominated from start to finish, rewarding our calls for a home win, more than 2.5 goals, both teams to score, and Orlando to lead at half-time and full-time.
New England Revolution 1-0 Chicago Fire
New England struck first and protected their lead through full-time, securing our home win forecast even as the encounter remained under 2.5 goals.
Austin 1-2 Vancouver Whitecaps
Vancouver conceded first but rallied to take all three points, hitting our exact scoreline projection of 1-2 along with our match result and total goals forecasts.
Houston Dynamo 2-2 FC Dallas
A four-goal derby ended level after FC Dallas pushed back, beating our call for a Houston win while landing both teams to score and over 2.5 goals.
Sporting Kansas City 1-3 Real Salt Lake
Real Salt Lake struck first and led at both breaks to take an away victory, delivering our calls for an away win, more than 2.5 goals, and both teams to score.
Los Angeles Galaxy 2-2 San Diego
The home side opened the scoring and generated plenty of attack, but San Diego answered repeatedly to force a draw, overturning our call for a Galaxy victory.
Seattle Sounders 1-1 CF Montreal
CF Montreal struck first and held Seattle to a single goal, wrecking our high-confidence home win call but keeping our win or draw projection intact.
San Jose Earthquakes 1-1 Nashville SC
Nashville struck the opener, yet San Jose continued their run of draws to split the points, missing our forecast for an away win while landing both teams to score.
Portland Timbers 0-0 Colorado Rapids
Despite absent defensive regulars on both sides, neither team could break through, failing all attacking projections in a scoreless draw.
FC Cincinnati 0-2 Columbus Crew
Columbus scored twice without reply to take derby honours, missing our calls for a home win, both teams to score, and more than 2.5 goals.
What we got wrong
The model's largest blind spots came in fixtures where defensive fragility failed to produce the expected attacking output. In Portland, reshuffled backlines and an absent starting goalkeeper in Zack Steffen pointed toward an open match with goals at both ends, yet the sides ground out a scoreless stalemate.
The model also placed too much faith in home form for Philadelphia Union and Seattle Sounders. Philadelphia brought a twelve-match unbeaten sequence into their game against Charlotte's leaky defence, but conceded twice to drop two points. In Seattle, the Sounders had won three consecutive home matches while CF Montreal brought eleven away defeats, yet the hosts could only manage a 1-1 draw.
Matchweek 30 closed with multiple front-runners stalled by unexpected draws, compressing the playoff races across both conferences as the regular season approaches its final stretch.
