Allsvenskan Matchweek 23 delivered an extraordinary weekend of action, headlined by IF Brommapojkarna coming away with an astonishing 6-5 victory away to AIK Stockholm. Across eight fixtures, our forecasting model experienced a mixed round, finding consistency on safety margins but struggling across several outright calls and totals.
How our forecasts did
The goals categories proved the most difficult test of the weekend. Both the total goals calls and both teams to score calls landed only three of their eight attempts. The model also split evenly on match result calls, where four of the eight finished as projected, while four of the eight first team to score forecasts hit the mark. The half-time and full-time projections also had a lean return, with three of eight coming home. On the positive side, win or draw calls performed best across the board, with seven of the eight landing. Exact scoreline forecasting is inherently difficult, but one of the eight calls landed when Malmo FF edged Kalmar FF 1-0.
Results
IFK Goteborg 1-0 Vasteras SK FK: IFK Goteborg secured three points through a single goal at home against Vasteras SK FK. The projection correctly called the home win, win or draw, the opening goal, and the half-time lead, though it missed on a higher total goal count.
AIK Stockholm 5-6 IF Brommapojkarna: An chaotic eleven-goal contest ended in a shock defeat for AIK Stockholm. While the projection correctly anticipated goals from both sides, more than 2.5 goals, and a decisive winner either way, the call for a home victory was undone by defensive frailty.
Gais 0-1 Sirius: Sirius claimed an away win thanks to a solitary goal. The model backed a home victory and missed on both teams scoring, though the win or draw call for a decisive winner landed.
Mjallby AIF 1-1 Degerfors IF: Mjallby AIF were held to a draw by Degerfors IF. That outcome frustrated the projected home victory, though the win or draw call held and both teams finding the net proved accurate.
Hammarby FF 0-1 Djurgardens IF: Djurgardens IF grabbed a single-goal away victory in the derby. Every call for this fixture missed, as the model expected Hammarby FF to prevail in a higher-scoring encounter.
BK Hacken 3-0 Orgryte IS: BK Hacken produced a commanding home performance against Orgryte IS. The model had firm confidence in the hosts, correctly forecasting the win, the win or draw, Hacken opening the scoring, the half-time lead, and more than 2.5 goals.
IF Elfsborg 4-0 Halmstad: IF Elfsborg cruised past Halmstad with four unanswered goals. Firm calls for a home victory, Elfsborg to strike first, at least one clean sheet, and more than 2.5 goals all landed cleanly.
Malmo FF 1-0 Kalmar FF: Malmo FF ground out a single-goal victory over Kalmar FF. The model projected the home victory, the opening goal, and nailed the exact 1-0 scoreline, even if it overshot the total goal tally.
What we got wrong
The biggest blind spot in the round came when AIK Stockholm shipped six goals at home to IF Brommapojkarna. The model leaned heavily into AIK's chance creation and squad depth while underestimating the impact of five missing starters in their defensive line. Brommapojkarna exploited those vacancies ruthlessly, turning what was projected as a 2-1 home win into an uncontrolled shootout.
The model was also completely off the mark in Hammarby FF's derby defeat to Djurgardens IF. Projecting Hammarby to generate heavy shot volume and control the game at home, the model did not foresee Djurgarden shutting down the hosts entirely in a 1-0 away victory. That defensive display overturned all seven published forecasts for the fixture.
Matchweek 23 tightened the standings across Allsvenskan, proving that defensive absences and derby pressure can disrupt established form lines.
