Serie A Matchweek 6 concluded with Juventus dropping points in Sardinia in a 1-1 draw against Cagliari, while Inter produced a flawless 3-0 home performance against Parma to solidify their position near the top. Across the round, our forecasting model enjoyed a steady weekend overall, getting six of the ten match result calls right and landing eight of ten win or draw projections, despite getting caught out by draws in Sardinia and Sassuolo.
How our forecasts did
Exact scoreline projections were the toughest area, with only one of the ten calls landing, though that single success came via a firm 3-0 projection for Inter. Total goals calls also split down the middle, with five of the ten calls proving accurate, while half-time and full-time projections similarly delivered five correct outcomes from ten.
On the positive side, win or draw calls were the round's strongest category, with eight of the ten calls landing safely. Both teams to score calls performed well with seven correct out of ten, matching the first team to score projections, which also saw seven of the ten calls prove accurate. In the primary match result column, six of the ten calls landed.
Results
Genoa 2-1 Fiorentina
Genoa climbed away from the bottom positions with an unexpected 2-1 win at the Ferraris. Our projection favoured a Fiorentina win based on their chance creation numbers, but only the call for both teams to score landed as the hosts struck twice.
Inter 3-0 Parma
Inter dismantled Parma with a ruthless display, leading at the break before completing an emphatic 3-0 victory. Every single projection for this fixture proved correct, including the exact 3-0 scoreline call.
Napoli 3-0 Frosinone
Napoli controlled proceedings from early on to defeat Frosinone 3-0. The model accurately backed a Napoli win, more than 2.5 goals, and the hosts to lead at the interval, though the call for both teams to score missed when the visitors were shut out.
Como 0-0 AS Roma
A disciplined defensive contest resulted in a goalless draw between Como and league leaders AS Roma. The projection had leaned toward a Como home win with goals at both ends, meaning none of the match forecasts landed.
Lazio 3-1 Monza
Lazio continued their steady run with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Monza. The model accurately forecasted a Lazio win, more than 2.5 goals, both teams to score, and Lazio to open the scoring.
Lecce 1-2 Bologna
Bologna earned their first victory of the league campaign by taking a 2-1 result at Lecce. Projections for a Bologna victory, both sides scoring, and Bologna leading at half-time were all validated.
Sassuolo 1-1 AC Milan
AC Milan opened the scoring but were pegged back to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo. While the call for an outright Milan victory failed, the projection for Milan to win or draw and the expectation that both teams would score were correct.
Cagliari 1-1 Juventus
Juventus failed to convert territorial superiority into three points, settling for a 1-1 draw against Cagliari. The high-confidence projection for an away win missed, though the win or draw call and the call for fewer than 2.5 goals held firm.
Atalanta 3-1 Venezia
Atalanta proved far too strong for Venezia, putting three goals past the struggling visitors in a 3-1 win. The model hit six of seven calls on this game, including the match result, both teams to score, and Atalanta leading at the interval.
Torino 2-1 Udinese
Torino edged out Udinese 2-1 in a tight fixture in Turin. The projection correctly anticipated a Torino win, Torino to win or draw, both teams finding the net, and the hosts opening the scoring.
What we got wrong
The most significant miss of Matchweek 6 was the firm projection for a Juventus victory in Cagliari. Our model leaned heavily on the gulf in underlying chance creation: Cagliari entered the weekend having been heavily outshot in earlier fixtures and relying on defensive fortune, while Juventus had conceded very little and generated regular entries into the opposing penalty area. On the pitch, however, Juventus failed to establish an early lead and could not break down a resolute Cagliari block in the second half.
Another clear misread came at Como, where the model projected a home win and more than 2.5 goals against table-topping Roma. While Como had shown strong form on their home turf, Roma's league-leading defensive record neutralized the contest completely, yielding a scoreless stalemate that defeated every forecast on the card.
Round reflections
Matchweek 6 rewarded teams who matched their attacking dominance with clinical finishing, as Inter and Napoli demonstrated with commanding three-goal victories. Meanwhile, the dropped points for Juventus and AC Milan underline the hazards of relying on defensive margins in tough away fixtures.
